Mascoma Bank is thrilled to announce that we were honored with the American Psychological Association’s 2019 Psychologically Healthy Workplace Award at a ceremony on March 28 in Washington, DC.
We were one of eight employers from across North America to receive the award this year, in the medium for-profit category. Mascoma Bank received the APA Psychologically Healthy Workplace Honors in fall 2018, qualifying us for APA award consideration.
The award recognizes employers who implement workplace practices that are supported by psychological science, which advance employee health and well-being while increasing performance and productivity. And while it’s always an honor to be recognized for efforts such as this, our true motivation is the care of our family of employees.
“Our employees are the Bank’s foundation upon which the entire organization stands,” says Clayton Adams, president and CEO of Mascoma Bank. “By offering our employees the tools they need to maintain a happy, healthy, and productive lifestyle, we pave the way for long-term partnerships that contribute to the health of the business and the health of our communities.”
As a Certified B Corporation®, Mascoma Bank is required to meet rigorous criteria in the fields of both customer satisfaction and employee wellness—in fact, we feel these are two sides of the same coin, because without one, you won’t have the other. For our team members, this means assurance that Mascoma Bank is focused on maintaining the highest standards in regards to staff health and wellness. Part of this is the implementation of our Performance Management Program, which ensures our team members are on track to succeed through constructive feedback and recognition for contributions, while our Mentorship Program enables team members to work as a cohesive unit that learns and develops at all levels of career. Mascoma Bank also works to ensure best practices are being used when it comes to physical health in the workplace.
“Employees notice when an organization legitimately cares about their well-being and are more likely to be satisfied with their jobs, committed to the organization, and motivated to do their best,” says David W. Ballard, PsyD, MBA, head of APA’s Psychologically Healthy Workplaces program and its Office of Applied Psychology, which hosts the annual awards. “Organizations like Mascoma Bank recognize the importance of creating a work environment where employees and the organization can thrive.”
