Mascoma Bank supported the Humane Society of Chittenden County’s (HSCC) by sponsoring two of their major fundraising events in 2020: Purrrses for Paws (an auction event featuring purses) and their first-ever virtual Walk & 5K. Mascoma’s sponsorship supported HSCC’s Annual Campaign, which funds everything from day-to-day operations to emergency veterinary care.
In addition to rehoming more than 1,000 animals annually, one of HSCC’s main initiatives is Surrender Prevention. While relinquishment may be the best choice in some situations, HSCC is committed to helping people find potential solutions that can help keep pets in homes with the people who love them. Their programs include a Pet Helpline offering guidance and resources for pet owners facing behavioral challenges, and a Free Pet Food Shelf where owners can find food and other supplies to help care for their pets.
Because nearly 70 percent of HSCC’s annual revenue comes from charitable donations, the organization relies heavily on support from the community. HSCC’s Director of Development Diana Hill said, “We are lucky to have our friends at Mascoma Bank just down the road. Our work wouldn’t be possible without the generous support from our neighbors like Mascoma!”
